Dr Jeanette Young has guided Queensland’s public health service for the past 15 years, advising the state through natural disasters including Tropical Cyclones Larry and Yasi and health disasters such as record-breaking influenza seasons and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr Young began her career in Sydney emergency departments before taking the role of medical services director at Rockhampton Hospital, followed by a similar role at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital. In 2005, she stepped into the role of CHO, providing leadership and advice on health matters to the Health Minister and other statewide organisations. Dr Young is also Deputy Director of Queensland Health’s Prevention Division, overseeing strategies aimed at preventing the development of chronic health conditions.
